The Central Manpower Base (CMPB) at Depot Road is a familiar sight to all able bodies males in Singapore. It is the place where we report for our medical examination and subsequently get enlisted for National Service. Many years later today, I find myself back in familiar grounds again. Except this time, I wasn’t going to get re-enlisted a second time, but to conduct a grooming workshop for the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) staff.
Hailing from different units and departments but with a mean work experience of 6 months in MINDEF, each of the 20 participants comprising 13 gentlemen and 7 ladies were undergoing a three-day induction programme. My grooming workshop is on Day 2 of their 3 day MINDEF Induction Programme.
Gone are the days when looking good was confined to being a woman’s prerogative. Men are slowly, but surely beginning to pay more attention on their outlook as well. Just ask the men in the class whose enthusiasm to learn as much as they could (even for the ladies’ component) is a huge encouragement.
Working in the military does not entail just donning the standard uniform. Depending on which vocation you are in or which unit you are assigned to, there are many a times when you need to appear in your civilian clothes as well. And this particularly applies to the non-uniformed staff.

If you ask me, grooming in the 21st century should be fuss-free but it should also be immaculate and tasteful. Most importantly, you should feel comfortable and yet leave a positive first impression that lasts.
From the perils of laughter ringing out in the classroom and eager faces abound, training them brought back good memories of the past when I too, as an ex-civil servant was in the seat undergoing my own induction programme. Except at that time, alas there was no grooming workshop at all...

Outside the skies were pouring buckets of rain. But inside the amphitheatre at Vivocity, we were all dry and eager awaiting the start of the fashion show. Invited to watch the Crocs Fashion Show meant getting a first sneak peek of the latest offerings. And you will be amazed by the new collection that are now currently in stores.

In the fickle world of fashion, innovation is the key to continued consumer loyalty. Many brands fail to realise this and unfortunately, start to lose market share. But certainly not Crocs. Just consider this fact - Over the last 10 years, Crocs has transformed from a one shoe company into a brand that carries over 300 shoe styles each season.

When Crocs first arrived on our shores, many of us were soon bought over by its design and the way the slipper shoes conforms to our feet after several wears.

Fast forward to 2012 where yet another new collection of shoes will be introduced.

For ladies in particular, it’s hard not to go ga-ga over the wide offerings ranging from beach sandals (otherwise known as sexi sandals), mini wedges, peep toes to deck shoes. This was what I counted amongst the new collection.

- 5 colours for translucent collection croslite (adrina 2)
- 3 colours for Carliana peep toe ombre
- 4 colours for sexi sandal
- 4 colours to sexi aliana
- 4 colours for carliana sandal
- 3 colours for carlisa mini wedge
- 2 colours for above deck shoes
- 4 colours for melboune II

Crocs shoes for Ladies

And if you thought only the ladies would get excited, you are dead wrong. The guys too were not forgotten. I personally sampled 4 leather types, 2 canvas types and 3 croslite materials. Okay, we may not have as wide a new collection as our female counterparts, but at least we have some more designs to choose from.

Crocs shoes for Men

I think I will have a serious headache later when I get to choose my free pair of Crocs from the outlet. But I guess I have narrowed down my option to the red pair of Crocs streetstyle shoes. Made of Croslite material, I should have no more worries about keeping my shoes dry in Singapore’s erratic weather should there be a heavy downpour. Easy to dry, lightweight, trendy to boot and so comfortable, the red Crosmesh Hover Lace Up is the pair I’m aiming to get.

The Crocs Fashion Show presented an interesting kaleidoscope of the various moments in our life – whether it was strict business wear, cool smart casual wear or down-to-earth casual wear. The models were dressed in each of these dress codes and accompanied by the pair of matching Crocs shoes! It was not just the colours that amazed, but the wide palette of styles. The message Crocs seems to send across is that there will always be a pair of Crocs shoes for each and every occasion.
