Your Blog To Looking & Feeling Good

Build Confidence Through Fitness, Grooming & Communication

After working hard at it for 4 straight days, with only me and my trusty desktop, I'm pleased to share with everyone the latest arrival of my all-new fitness website Personal Training Singapore.

As the name suggests, it's focused on helping existing clients and potential customers to lose weight and build muscle.

For some of us, we simply cannot see any results working out in the gym by ourselves. We look practically the same. This is not surprising as we have been doing the same exercise over and over again. Was it a wise man who once said that "if you keep doing the same time and can achieve different results, you should be called a genius"?

Indeed, if you are one of those who are still struggling to meet your fitness goals - be it weight loss or building muscle, let my team and myself be of help to you.

Unlike others, we all come with a certain baggage or past. If you already know me by now, I used to be stick-thin, sickly and acne-prone. While some of my trainers were skinnygainers like me, there were also those who were overweight and labelled terrible names by the people around them.

Here's a quick snapshot of my latest fitness site - Personal Training Singapore.

If you have dreams of wanting to transform your body too, to become fitter or simply because you have an important event coming up, stop wasting time experimenting on your own.

We live in a world where we are bombarded with different types of information coming at us from different directions. But at the end of the day, we know what we want. Go for it!

Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing my clients improve week after week. The feeling transcends everything as it makes me feel so blessed to be able to be encouraging them on their fitness journey.

Although today's Vesak Day, but I'm still working! In fact, I choose to work, work is also part of play for me.

And what a day it turned out to be...what a transformation I've witnessed for myself ever since Nandini started personal training and resistance band training with me.

From frumpy housewife combating post-natal weight gain to the persona and confidence of the hot, sexy mama she showed during the photoshoot, I am really proud of her. No wonder she turns heads at school gatherings and has garnered praises from her circle of friends.

This is her story. Feel inspired and take action too...! If she can do it, you can do it.

"A testimonial for Lionel...I am finally sitting down after six months to get this done for which I must thank him for waiting so patiently. I had done personal training before in Singapore after having my second child but to cut a long story short, there was really no change in my body. So I was skeptical about choosing another trainer to work with. However, since things were looking mighty bleak...so I gave it another shot with Lionel.

When I first met him, there were a lot of doubts in my mind...the ever pessimist that I am started thinking if this would work. He gave me a meal plan which I started following immediately.

The routine was gentle at first and then after three or four sessions, he started pushing me. I always started with the same line "I can't do it", but Lionel always gave me the confidence which urged me on. He makes you do exercises without really being too hard on your body and also eases when needed to. We work on the entire body every session so it makes it more fun but I always complain. I think Lionel knows how to push me without making it really laborious. He mixes the exercises with weights and on the mat which also helps as it's not concentrated on just bulking up the body but also toning it.

I have definitely seen tremendous changes in my upper body. I trust he will help me achieve that "look" that we both laugh about. He's good company and though he's my trainer, we can still have a chat about other things which makes it more fun!!

Good luck with everything, Lionel. And I hope your book sells big time and you become a real trainer guru not just in Singapore but all over Southeast Asia, if not the world."

Personal Training Changes Lives

Posted by: lionel

It is the worst kept secret that when we embark on something new, it’s almost always the most difficult. And that’s when some of us would feel like throwing in the towel and walk away. We tell ourselves it’s too difficult and it cannot be done. But for the rest of us who persevere and watch the weeks go by, the results really speak for themselves.

Such is the case of one of my male clients. Comparing the first time when he started training and the training he just completed today (his 15th lesson), the results are just phenomenal.

A working professional with his daily schedule laden with meetings and schedules, coupled with a host of health problems, led him to explore personal training. From day one, he did not give up even though he huffed, puffed and barely made it through the first few trainings. I could see he labored through his runs breathlessly, often having to stop intermittently and was intimidated by the weight machines. After all, he was a novice just starting out. But if the going gets tough, the tough gets going. And that was his approach. He did not give up. Instead, he kept coming back for training and that’s the key to success in life – consistency.

It does not matter if you cannot do a standard push-up or complete 15 reps of an overhead press. All I ask of you is for you to give your best. Once you have given your best and you know it yourself, you will improve. Your body will thank you for it. Have faith and trust yourself. You will get there one day.

I salute him for the marked increase in strength, endurance and good form. Watching him train was akin to seeing a transformed man completing his run with better stamina and overcoming the weights with full confidence. Was this the same guy I knew barely one and a half months ago?

Let the truth be spoken and that is he really did his homework as he was asked to. As a lifestyle coach, I can motivate and push you beyond your comfort zone in the gym. But I cannot be doing your cardio and eating clean for you. Busy as his schedule is, he makes it a point to schedule in at least three runs a week either during lunchtime or after work. This is on top of the once/twice weekly personal training sessions and a 10-minute run that precedes each training.

Departmental runs at Marina Barrage with his colleagues are now becoming more of a breeze than a pain as he is able to keep pace with the fitter ones without them having to wait for him while they surge forward. More importantly, his pants are getting looser and he has to resort to tightening it by using the other extreme end of his belt.

At the movie preview of Robin Hood last week, I was awed by a particular quote in the movie. I think my male client truly deserves it. “Rise and rise again…until lambs become lions”. He has done it and is on his way to a fitter and healthier lifestyle. Will you like to come on board too?

Never Give Up On You

Posted by: lionel

A new client told me he felt disappointed with himself after today's training as he had difficulty lifting the weights. "Don't give up on me ok?" he said.

I will never give up on any of my clients. More importantly, you must not give up on yourself. Everyone starts at a different training phase of their life. Some begin as fresh-faced novices with zero knowledge on how to workout while others are semi-professional gym-goers who take personal training to sculpt a better body.

Regardless of who you are, you have to start somewhere. For the fresh-faced novice, it's always a challenge initially getting used to the workout. After all, terms like rep, set, dropset, superset etc were alien to you until recently.

Muscles take time to grow. They don't grow overnight. But given the right training techniques and proper guidance, you can be rest assured that you will get the body you want. It is alright if you can't life or pull or push or curl all the way. That's where your personal trainer comes in to motivate and help you.

All you have to do is to believe in yourself, that you can do it and be willing to give your best in every workout session.

For the semi-professional gym-goer, the challenge of having to struggle with the weights is still evident, albeit on a different level. Moving onto heavier weights, you will still find the going tough initially.

Never give up on yourself. Never compare yourself with others. We are all unique individuals. Yes, the initial going may get tough but given time and practice, the tough gets simplified and the simplified becomes easy.

This may sound cliche but it works everytime I share it.

"If you think personal training is a stroll in the park, think again”. This is my favourite phrase of late. Besides commitment from both client and trainer, personal training also demands a lot of determination from the client. It is definitely not an hour of chit-chat time where you pour out all your sob stories, latest problems or complaints about colleagues or bosses to me.

Have you ever wondered why there are some people who work out at the gym for years and still remain scrawny or chubby? That’s because they spend too much time chatting up other people in the gym and neglecting the workout.

Sorry, in my personal training sessions, you will never get this. Yes, we will have some small talk but basically that’s about it. And more often than not, the small talk is created to elicit feedback from clients so that they are on the same wavelength as me.

My role as a trainer or coach is to push you to the limits and be responsible for your improvement session after session. It is to make you do that extra rep that you know makes all the difference.

As your coach, I want to see you perspire as if you have never perspired in years because when you perspire, you flush out the toxins from your body. As your trainer, I want to see you become stronger each session. That's equally important. You must feel you have the gradual ability to lift better and heavier.

It’s amazing how there are some who look at the weight and even before they start to push or lift, start forming negative thoughts in their minds which go ‘no, no, no way I can lift that’. Such self-defeating beliefs should be thrown out of the window as they impede your progress.

Believe me. I’m here to help you push through the barriers. I want to see you succeed because it is our common goal we are working towards. Let us embark on a meaningful and beautiful partnership :)

Personal training is a stroll in the park? Please think again…it is only for people who are committed. But once you are committed, you can be rest assured I'll be there to match your commitment level.

I Love Fitness

One of my clients asked me why I chose to become a full-time personal trainer. I didn’t have to think at all before replying him.

singapore personal trainer imgFitness has and will always be my passion. Nothing makes me happier and more alive than working out in the gym and doing my runs. The feeling is wonderful! I feel so alert after each exercise session.

So when it came to looking for my life direction, I already knew deep down what I wanted. I want to be able to spread the same love and enthusiasm I feel towards fitness to the people around me, hopefully infecting them with my energies.

When you are fit, you look and feel younger. I don’t look my age….thanks to fitness.

When you are fit, you are less prone to falling sick. That’s a lot of money saved!
