NLP Training At Arrow Electronics

There are many things I need to be grateful for in life and this is one of them – that people actually sign up for a lunchtalk because they know it’s me and I deliver value.

As with all lunchtalk collaborations, I’m the one who attracts the crowd or fronts the advertisement. And it isn’t always everyday when you get to meet a room full of staff who are willing to learn. And for this very reason itself, my very presence this afternoon holds special meaning. Thank you, staff of Arrow Electronics. You make me feel extremely welcome!

Many I spoke to have heard of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) or any derivatives of it. But many, I’m sure, even till today, are clueless as to how one actually applies NLP techniques in their everyday lives. From my own practitioner programme and my interactions with all my audience through these years, this is the fruit of my labour – my very own “Applying NLP Techniques In Your Everyday Life” talk. Succinct, easy to comprehend and 100% useful I dare say.

When learnt at first, NLP may be a little uncomfortable as it means replacing your current perspectives with new ones. It’s like putting on a pair of spectacles and seeing things from another viewpoint. When you first wear that pair of spectacles, you feel a little awkward as it’s taking you out of your comfort zone.

But then that’s the beauty of NLP. When put into practice, it can be easily integrated into our everyday lives. And by doing so, it becomes so much easier to build rapport with others, especially the people around us. Whether or not we know the people around us – be they our colleagues, friends, family or even strangers is immaterial. What makes us tick and tango in a duet is understanding each other’s representational systems and matching it. Go a step further and mirror the other person’s verbal and non-verbal communication systems if you wish. Do this and watch your rapport move up a notch. Of course, there are some negative postures which you will never mirror such as arms folded and a turned torso. Because if you do, then you will be in for a rough time or be greeted by a perpetually angry face.

Judging from the rapport of the Arrow Electronics colleagues, it’s evident that they easily banter and joke with one another. And guess what? With the power of NLP, they will be able to strengthen the bonds and build even greater camaraderie to boost productivity in the office.

You have to try it to be convinced of how powerful NLP can be. If you want to be a master communicator, NLP is definitely the way to go. Contact me here if you wish to experience first-hand this unique experience.

NLP Training Workshop For SHRI Staff

Most people may have heard of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) or may have even attended some past training. Yet when it comes to applying it in their daily lives, many are unfortunately, clueless. This is one of the most often heard remarks from my audience.

Do not despair as NLP is not something that is beyond the reach of all. Neither is it so mystical that only a few blessed ones are able to crack the magic code.

Simply put, NLP is the study of excellence. In order to reach the pinnacle of success in life, knowing how and when to apply the various techniques of NLP is that key.

Sharing with the staff at the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI) this afternoon, many of whom signed up especially for this NLP class, I had more than my dosage of fun and participation today. Like all my programmes, my “Applying NLP In Your Daily Lives” programme is 100% practical hands-on.

There are many tenets of NLP but the ones I love most are those that enable us to build better rapport with others. In a society where we are always surrounded by people – colleagues, clients and vendors at the workplace; and family and friends outside the office, learning how to build rapport with others will put us in good stead. If we can observe their eyeball patterns, listen to their choice of words used and read their body language; it is half the battle won. Just like how I share with my participants in my grooming workshops that it takes just half a second to leave a positive lasting first impression, so too can you get into the world of the other person in as brief as one minute.

Should you want to go a step further, then what you can do after decoding the representational system of your partner is to mirror him or her. Just like a physical mirror when we can look into and see our own reflection, mirroring is yet another very useful NLP tenet. We can mirror almost anything under the sun – ranging from gestures, breathing patterns to tonality and speed of voice.

And less you be taken by surprise, it really is that easy to instantly change your present state in that split second. Just like how you would snap your fingers when you get that eureka moment, so can you snap out of your present state in the same manner. Still feeling down and overburdened by work? Snap out of it! Change your state! There are the participants showing you how to do it :)

Even though words only make up 7% of our total image score, it is still important to choose the right words when communicating with others. This is especially so because we do not live in a vacuum. Like it or not, we are surrounded by people – our colleagues, friends, families, suppliers and even strangers.

While words have the power to motivate, heal and make others feel loved; words too have the power to hurt, demoralize and inflict pain. Therefore, choosing the right words to use in any situation is an art in itself. And there lies the beauty of NLP.

NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming continues to wield a ‘mystic’ power over millions of believers since it was formally introduced by Richard Bandler and John Grinder during the 1970s.

But let the truth be said that NLP is not something reserved only for the scholarly, bright and upper-class. It is a very useful tool which we can all adapt for usage in our everyday lives as long as we know how to. Essentially, NLP is concerned with how one knows what one knows.

This in essence was the message I brought across to the staff of HK Hardware & Engineering Pte Ltd today.

Comprising the management team seated right upfront and the rest of the staff who signed up for it in the back tables, I saw many a pair of doe eyes looking at me in bewilderment.

No, I didn’t project myself as a demigod. Neither did I speak in a tongue so alien to their native Singaporean or Malaysian ears. What I did was simply lift the veil behind NLP and demystified it completely.

I’m grateful for this gift of mine which is to simplify difficult to grasp concepts into easy, bite-sized ones.

What NLP can really do for everyone who chooses to embrace the different tenets and integrate them into our daily lives is to help enhance our relationships with others. This is done through adopting the right representational systems. For example, if the speaker primarily uses visual words to communicate his thoughts, I too would choose visual words in my response to him. If he was more kinesthetic, then so would I. It is this simple. But of course, you would have to observe other types of systems too.
